Route Details

2-hour one-way bike ride that can start or end at any of the following 2 GO train stations - @poi[Pickering](7005981) or @poi[Whitby](7006068). Both stations have free parking, washrooms, bike racks and staffed by GO employees if you have any questions.

Fitness requirements are low because it is not for high speeds and a more of a cruising ride.  The best time of year to do the route is Spring-Summer-Fall, however, in the summer months, the mosquitos come out as the evening cools and you will be on the Waterfront Trail for the majority of the ride.

This is a great solo ride because of the peace and quiet your get for 90% of the route, or bring a friend and enjoy the conversation.  There are so many great spots to stop and eat, drink and catch up.  This path is for those who want a quiet zone of nature with lots of cool waterfront breezes on a humid day.

## Highlights of the ride
* The best part of the entire Waterfront Trail is on this route
* Beautiful lakeshore cool breezes on hot days and lots of shade throughout at shelters and buildings
* There are no steep climbs but there are some challenging hills at a low grade
* There are no major roads on this route.  ~10% of the route is on minor roads shared with cars.  ~90% on safe, shared paths with pedestrians.

# Notes
* Recommended equipment & attire: Any bike and any skill since the paved trail is very good.  If one uses a road bike, please be upright and lower speeds because there are many people on this shared path and many of them are seniors.  
* There are many blind spots at speeds > 20 kph.
* Bring water and snacks because this is overwhelmingly a waterfront trail route.
* Bike Shops include - @poi[Northern Cycle](7028170) and @poi[Cycle Life](7185757)
* There is a major @poi[grocery store](7028173) off the route by 10 minutes
* @poi[A major hospital](7006110) is located off the path for any type of emergency.  Travel up Harwood to the hospital.  Safe bike lanes to get to the hospital is a bonus.
