Route Details

Start your day with a little dirt as your route takes you across the dam between the two lakes. You might want to hold off on breakfast until reaching Guyton. Oddly, the best breakfast is probably in the giant convenience store, Parker's, in Guyton.

Next roll down a quiet stretch of road until you find yourself continuing onto an even quieter stretch--an abandoned 2 mile long bit of paved road. Bay trees press in from the left and right. This road passes through a Carolina Bay, one of the approximate 5000 Geological features of the Coastal Plain named after their common Bay trees. These geological features are perhaps remnant splatter cones of a giant meteor crash 100's of miles to the north.

Pass through several small sandy communities as you skirt the eastern bank of the Ogeechee River. Look for the ancient Pliestocene sand dunes.

You will be entering Savannah by the deeply shaded Old Louisville Road. Owing to its history as Georgia's principle seaport, you will find historical railroad tracks abound before you rise onto the Yamacraw Bluff and enter historic Savannah.
