First, let’s talk logistics: Between the distance and the likelihood of a strong breeze, this is a ride best done as a shuttle—drop one car at @poi[Fort Stevens State Park](8362896) (free parking) and drive the other to the start of your ride in Gearhart.
 
About that wind… On a beach ride, it’s important to know which way the wind is blowing—it’s always best to have the wind at your back, to enjoy the speed of riding a tailwind.
 
@slice[Starting in Gearhart](d,0,282.86), head down the two long tracks from the city onto the beach and then head north. You’ll find the beach is wide open and has very few technical features to get in your way. Riding along the hard-packed, smooth sand will instantly make you feel like you’re flying free.
 
Most of this ride also allows access for cars on the beach, so keep an eye out for vehicles that may not see you. Since this beach is motorized, you can also ride an E-bike on it if you’d like.
 
Before you know it, you’ll find yourself at the @poi[shipwreck of the Peter Iredale](8362898). At low tide you can circle around this marine relic. Feel free to stop and observe what remains of the four-masted ship that ran ashore in 1906.
 
Once you’re back on your bike, keep heading north toward the jetty to where you parked your car. If you’d like to get in some extra miles, explore the trails in Fort Stevens State Park on your fat bike. Beyond riding bikes, there is camping on-site, along with a lot of other educational activities to learn about at the visitors center.
 
Just to the south in Manzanita, at Bahama Mama’s, you can find some simple single-speed fat bikes. Cannon Beach has a couple of locations to rent beach cruisers that will also do the job.
Wheel Fun Rentals has bike rentals while Surfsand Resort has free bikes for hotel guests.
