Route Details

Situated next to the Maumee River, the Towpath connects two great towns, Waterville and Grand Rapids. This multi-use path is about 9.5 miles long and makes for a great out and back ride no matter how far out you go. There are many places to stop and rest, with restrooms other facilities at both ends of the Towpath. On the way back from Providence Metropark, consider taking a trip across the river into Downtown Grand Rapids. There are many local shops and restaurants, including an art gallery, old time candy store, and an ice cream shop.

The route is a simple out and back on the Towpath, but here are some key sections:
1. @slice[The first short section is paved until you get to the boat launch area.](d,0,1243.87)
2. @slice[Between Farnsworth and Bend View, the trail is flat and hard packed. It drains well even after hard rains.](d,1358.87,4429.15)
3. @slice[Bend View has a shelterhouse that you must walk your bike around. This section goes behind the shelterhouse if you don't want to get off the bike. The trail is a little rough here and can be muddy if it has recently rained.](d,4443.56,4956.68)
4. @slice[Between Bend View and Providence, the trail is a mix of hard pack, dirt, and some rough gravel.](d,5018.24,12094.03)
5. @slice[Welcome to Providence Metropark. You may see the mules when the weather is warm. They still tow on the Towpath. You will also see the Ludwig Mill. Follow the trail until it ends for a great view of the river.](d,12291.52,14934.45)
