Routedetails

The route starts near Gesher Haziv at the Dor Alon gas station.  There is a small parking lot in the back, and in the early morning you will meet many riders.  The route has quite a bit of climbing, with a few short steep sections.  It follows the border with Lebanon, and if there is tension, some passages might be blocked by the army.  On the other hand, you will enjoy beautiful views of southern Lebanon and the Western
Galilee.

Start by leaving the gas station to the left and immediately right on route 4 going north. About 4kms into the ride, take a right onto route 899. The first 10kms of the route are fairly flat with a couple of short climbs.  Enjoy it as a good warm-up before you start climbing.

Around km 10.6 you will take a left towards Adamit and start your @slice[first climb](d,10624.39,15942.26).  About 5.6 kms with an average grade of 6.3% and some 11+% sections will make sure that you are warm by then.  At the end of the climb, near Adamit, enjoy the view on your left towards Lebanon.  You will now pass the village of Arab-Al-Aramsha followed by a short 3kms climb.  Here again enjoy the views of the Western Galilee on your right. Continue on a nice flat until @poi[you get to a T-junction.](8322272)

Take a right towards Shomera (there is an option to go left towards Zar'it, but the entrance to the village is often closed). Enjoy the downhill, until you get to a large roundabout before Shomera.  Take the second exit towards route 8992.  This is one of the most beautiful @photo[roads](6429745), with almost zero traffic.  Take a left on 8994 towards Shetula, and you will be greeted by a steep, short climb as you enter Shetula.  Cross the village towards the back entrance and you will reach another T-junction with road 8993.  Enjoy the wall with some gorgeous @photo[paintings](6429743) by Zabou. Take a right followed by a left to stay on 8993 towards the east.  You will  finally reach the main Northern Route 899.

From there, it's basically downhill, with the exception of the @slice[2.2km climb to Even Menachem](d,44353.71,46570.5), all the way to route 4.  Turn left to go back to the car (another 4km) or take a short detour (recommended) to the right to @photo[Rosh Hanikra](6467522), where you will get after a short climb to the border with Lebanon, near the cable car that takes you to the Rosh Hanikra grotto.

# Important Reminders

On Saturdays, there is hardly any traffic on these roads.  You may hit some traffic on route 899, especially as you come back around noon or early afternoon.
