Route Details

Getting to the Starting Point

Park at the Echo Canyon Trailhead parking lot, 4925 N McDonald Dr, Phoenix, AZ 85018. The trailhead has bathrooms and cold water is available.

The Ride

From the parking lot, make your way to McDonald Dr, turn right (east) on McDonald. Ride a nice set of rollers on a smooth road. Although there is not much of a bike lane, the speed limit is 25 and strictly enforced. Vehicles drive slowly and calmly here. We'll be turning soon.

Turn right (south) at Superstition Ln, where you see the sign for The Sanctuary.

Climb then turn left on Starlight Way. Follow the cues. You are in a neighborhood where star atheletes and some very successful business people live. Take a look at these beautiful homes as you ride by. Camelback mountain stays in view, too.

Turn right (south) at Invergordon. Be careful! Many hikers park just south of here on your side of the road. People frequently partially park in the bike lane, open doors into the bike lane and walk, hike or jog in the bike lane, too.

The resort on your right is The Phoenician.

Invergordon becomes 64th Street. After crossing Camelback Rd turn right (west) on Exeter. We are using Exeter to avoid Camelback, a road that is too busy for comfort on a bicycle. Your next turn is at a roundabout on to 56th St.

After crossing Camelback Rd, you've got some climbing to do! Hope you have a compact crank and 32-11 cassette :)

Follow the arrow left then veer right soon after. Climb now and descent coming soon. Watch your speed going down!

Your descent on Arcadia does not last very long. Take a right on Rockridge followed by another right on Dromedary.

Follow the cues, your steepest climb is coming soon.

Enjoy the descent views but watch the road, too.

When you get to Camelback Rd, use the sidewalk to get to 44th St. There are places to eat and have beverages at Camelback Village Center.

Be careful going north on 44th St. It might be a good idea to stay on the sidewalk in places where there is no bike lane. As you get further north, the sidewalk is kind-of a bike path.

Turn at McDonald and you are back to the starting point!
