This trail is a beautiful biking adventure in the rolling hills of Prince George’s County in Maryland, some 40 minutes from the center of Washington DC. The trail connects two unique historical places, lesser-known to Washingtonians and visitors.

Route Details

The trail starts at the @point[National Colonial Farm](d,160.46) at Piscataway Park. The farm is a historic farm museum set up by the [Accokeek Foundation](http://www.accokeek.org/national-colonial-farm) in 1958. On display are farm dwellings from around 1770, an 18th-century tobacco barn, and an out-kitchen. The farm plays a leading role in preserving historic plant varieties including, vegetables, herbs, and flowers.

Parking near the visitors center is not an issue. The entrance to the park and farm is free. The boardwalk near the visitors center provides an excellent view of Mount Vernon across the majestic Potomac River.

From the farm, the trail follows rustic country roads in hilly terrain to @point[Fort Washington Park](d,17783.17). This fort was built to defend the river approach to Washington, DC. It is a massive structure and unique of its kind. Information displays educate visitors on the rich history of the fort, built some 200 years ago.

# Important Reminders

Note that this trail is on steep hills (see the elevation graph). It is a perfect trail for e-bikers and road warriors, but perhaps less suitable to easy riders on analog bikes.
