Furano in Central Hokkaido is famous for the many lavender farms in the area. This route will take you around to six of the lavender fields on a picturesque cycling loop.

Route Details

Furano is known as the ‘Navel of Hokkaido’ for its central location on the island. There are numerous lavender fields in the area that start blooming over a 6 week period from mid to late June. There are so many back roads which are very quiet and have wide shoulders due to the abundant snowfall during the winter months.

This loop route is around 54 kilometers and will take you on a cycle route to six lavender fields in the area. The ride starts at the @poi[Furano Winery](47380957) where there are 2 lavender fields. There are toilets that are open next to the winery building.

The second lavender field on the cycling route is @poi[Saika no Sato](47380949) which is a bit of a @slice[climb](d,9895.03,12243.68). There are toilets here. From there, you will cycle to the @poi[Naka-Furano ski hill](47380950) which provides great views over to the Daisetsuzan National Park. Careful as there is a small @slice[section](d,12694.22,12982.63) of gravel here.

You will then cycle to Kami Furano and the @poi[Hinode Park](47380951) which is on top of a @slice[steep hill](d,24691.24,25126.95). You will need your good cycling legs to get up there, but the views are great. There is a toilet here and vending machines.

You will then loop back to Naka Furano and stop at both @poi[East](47380953) and @poi[West](47380955) Tomita Farms. This is the biggest and most famous of the lavender farms in the area. I like the East Farm because it is less busy and has great views to the mountains.

You can also make this an eating tour. Make sure to stop into @poi[Yamanaka](47380954).

Also, there are various melon cakes you can eat at the ‘@poi[Melon House](47380955)’ which is next to Tomita Farm West.

Try the well known '[Shinatora](https://tabelog.com/en/hokkaido/A0104/A010403/1007692/)' ramen at the end of the ride in the center of Furano township.
