Route Details

Cyclotouring route that links the locality of Inari and the @poi[North Cape](52256603). Inari is very well known for the winter traverse of the lake of the same name of the city. In the heart of Lapland, you will be passing through a few of the most emblematic Lapland landmarks, like @poi[Kárášjohka](55493794) or Inari.
The route crosses the Finland and Norwegian @poi[Border](52256608).

I did it during the November midwinter. This area is pretty isolated, and you will find yourself in the middle of nature for hours with only some farms and reindeer. Keep in mind that at this period the winter has already started, and the temperature goes easily a fiver or tenner degrees below 0 Celsius, even lower some time. The road freezes as the temperatures drop during the night, and it may snow. You may need a nice set of spike tyres if it gets icy.

I would opt to do it during summer if you prefer to enjoy the greener of the Lapland and the solitude of the tundra in the north Cape.

Keep in mind there are some tunnels that are open for bikes, but they are very long, and one of them is longer than 6 kilometres, connecting the North cape island to the main land. It goes downhill  for about 3K until starts to climb for 3K more and@poi[enter label](55493794) has some resting areas along the tunnel provided with emergency phones.

The trucks are quite respectful but circulate very fast and the noise passing by your side is like being surrounded by excavators.

Make sure you have nice reflective equipment and good lighting.
