This 27-mile-long paved route is located near Franklin and Nashville, Tennessee and the northern terminus of the Natchez Trace Parkway. Nine miles of the loop route are on the Parkway while other parts of the route take you thru the pastoral Fernvale community and the historic village of Leiper's Fork.

Route Details

Nine miles of this 27-mile-long, figure-eight loop route are on the @slice[Natchez Trace Parkway (Parkway) from milepost 428 (intersection with TN Hwy 46/Pinewood Road) to milepost 438 (intersection with TN Hwy 96)](d,25.44,10372.41). The off Parkway portion of the loop takes you thru the @photo[Fernvale community](12378777) and the @slice[historic village of Leiper's Fork](d,11917.84,13810.46). The entire route is paved. The speed limit for vehicles on this part of the Parkway is 40 mph due to numerous curves.

There are a few steep climbs - two in the 8% range. The route takes you @photo[alongside](12378782) and @photo[under](12378775) the famous @poi[Double Arch Bridge](61534255) (bike half a mile off the route and you can bike over the bridge), thru the picturesque Fernvale community, up and down Old Highway 96 @photo[under a canopy of trees](12444399) and thru the heart of Leiper's Fork where you can enjoy a meal at one of three restaurants and see the @photo[antique shops and art galleries that line Old Hillsboro Road](12378769).

## Parking, Restrooms and Food:
There is one public restroom directly on the route at @poi[Timberland Park](61534273) (milepost 437.2 on the Parkway) where you can also park while you ride. There is also a restroom at @poi[Leiper's Fork Market](61534267) and the restaurants (@poi[Fox & Locke](55496665) and @poi[The Country Boy](61534265)) in Leiper's Fork. Less than a mile south of the route on the Parkway at milepost 427.6 is the @poi[Garrison Creek](61534274) site with a restroom and parking. Another convenient place to park is a @poi[parking area](61534270) at milepost 435.6 on the Parkway.

## Important Reminders:

The Parkway is a designated bicycle route. Numerous signs instruct motorists to be aware of cyclists and that they may use the other lane to safely pass cyclists. Cyclists are encouraged to bike single file on the right side of the road. There is no shoulder - you are biking on the same road as vehicles.

Off the Parkway the roads on this route are lightly traveled country roads except for about two miles on Hwy 96 which has a @photo[wide shoulder designated as a bike lane](12378774).

* Always wear a helmet. 
* Wear brightly colored clothes. 
* Fall season: neon yellow/green is a contrast against the fall foliage. 
* Spring season: bright corals, orange and blues show up best against new foliage. 
* Black and dark colors ARE NOT SAFE because you blend into pavement.
* Lights on the back and front of your bike.
