The best route for a gravel bike on Antelope Island! Smooth pavement for a warmup, gravel at the south end of the island and a mix of singletrack, double track and pavement to finish!

Expect great views, a variety of terrain and relatively remote riding all a short drive from Salt Lake city. The Antelope Gravel special is about 60% dirt and is best on a bike with 40mm or wider tires. Start at the west end of the causeway from the gravel parking lot or save a few dollars and start from the east end of the causeway to add 14 miles. The best time of the year for this route is early spring or in the fall as the bugs can be very bad in the summer. Check with the Antelope Island State park or Utah cycling Facebook groups for current conditions.

Start on the north end of the island at the gravel parking lot. The ride starts with a warm up on the paved road to [Fielding Garr ranch](https://stateparks.utah.gov/parks/antelope-island/ranch-tour/). From fielding Garr the road transitions to gravel. Follow this road until it dead ends or continue on to add miles on a trail that leads to the southern end of the island. Ride back up to the ranch on the gravel road and hop onto the @point[mountain view trail](d,17985.17). This trail is generally smooth and flowy with a few sections that are chunky or bumpy. It is doable on just about any gravel bike. After a while on the mountain view trail, hop back on to the road and turn left to start the climb up gravel pit trail. This doubletrack climb leads to the high point of the route, @poi[Beacon Knob.](88224311) This is a good spot to take a well deserved rest on the benches, have a snack and enjoy the view. After Beacon Knob the route loops towards the east side of the island on double track. This section is a ton of fun and varies from smooth and fast to rocky or sandy. The loop finishes with some fast pavement to make the last few miles a little easier.

# Important Reminders

* There are bison on Antelope island. Please stay back as they are wild animals. If the bison are in your way wait for them to pass or choose a different route
* This route requires a medium amount of fitness as there are some significant climbs, technical sections and low water availability
* It costs $15 to enter the park by car or $3 per bike if you ride in. Parking is available just before the gate if you would like to add 7 miles each way across the causeway and save some money. The causeway has a large shoulder to ride on.
