A round trip following three rivers: Geis, Beise, Fulda.
The highlight is the Mühlenradweg ("Mills Cycling Route") as a almost unknown, not very long, but wonderful secret tip. You have to reach the beginning of the Mühlenradweg by climbing the Pommer first, but then you are rewarded. The Mühlenradweg follows the scenic Beise valley and uses smaller tracks than usual.

First you will leave Bad Hersfeld following the Geis river (a small one) against it's flow direction. The cycling path leads you through fields parallel but not directly next to the main street up to a village called Aua. Afte this you will join a country road with not much traffic. Following that road you will reach the village Mühlbach on a mostly slight uphill section. After the village there's the main climb of this route leading you to the highest point - the Pommer.
After reaching that point you are rewarded by a long descent on a country road through forrest until reaching the next village Hainrode, where the Mühlenradweg begins. @photo[Beginning of Mühlenradweg](14580020)

This cycling route is the nicest section of the whole tour. It uses a small asphalt strip at the edge of the forrest in the shadow of old trees and far away from any traffic.
After a few kilometers it uses normal field and forrest tracks. The route follows the little river Beise from source to it's end by joining the Fulda river.
The valley is calm and quiet. Besides the fields of wild flowers and the idyllic course of the river and wetlands. Also the villages are worth a visit. There are nice framework houses, some old mills and also a living bee museum. @photo[Living Bee Museum,](14581017) @point[here](d,33900.5)

Along the route there once have been 26 water mills. Most of them can not be recognized as mills today. But people have taken some afford to make the route some kind of experience nevertheless. There are information boards, a water playgrounds, a nature education path, little toy water mills and resting places.

Atfer about the half of the Beisetal there's an @photo[old railway](14581021) line joining the valley. You will see the old viaducts and tunnels when crossing the former railway line several times. It was once part of the "Kanonebahn" from northern france to Berlin.
The last section of the Mühlenradweg then leads you on a country road (with not much traffic again) down natural meadows.

When reaching Beiseförth, where the Beise joins the Fulda river, you will join the Fulda river cycling path (Fuldaradweg R1), which is known not only regionaly. So here you will find more cyclists and also a nice indian/italian @photo[restaurant](14581009) (@point[here](d,40934.82)). Just two kilometers after this you will have to cross the river by a manually driven @photo[bicycle cable car](14579974) - so be prepared to use your arms too.
In winter or when the water level is too high the cable car is closed and you have to take a 3km detour across a hill.

After this the valley of the Fulda river is getting wider. You will pass some small and nice villages and also the old Haydau Monastery. You will also pass the framework tow Rotenburg before reaching Bad Hersfeld again.

The last part (last half of the route) follows the Fulda river and in that valley you also have an operated railway line. So you can shorten your trip by taking the train at one of the four stations you'll pass (shortest varation of this route by using the train: 40km).

## Route description:
The GPX-path has a few small differences to the official cycling paths as indicated by the signs next to the streets. If you do not have a GPS-device or no access to the GPX-file follow these instructions.

- Leave the train station in Bad Hersfeld on the city side (north) and join the main street ("Friedloser Straße") turning left. After crossing the next intersection make a slight right to follow the "Geis" river against it's stream direction.
Follow that river as long as in needs to find the signs of the cycling path "R10"

- Follow R10 for about 13km passing 4 villages

- In the village "Aua" turn right and then join the main street westbound (left turn); after about 300m make a slight right to follow the smaller main street in direction of "Mühlbach"@point[ see here](d,13089.65)

- Follow the street through the next village (Mühlbach) and up the following ascend to the top, where you will find an intersection; turn right onto the street to "Hainrode" and "Ersrode". @point[ see here](d,17742.2)

- At the end of the Mühlenradweg (after about 40km) turn right onto the "Fulda Radweg" R1 and follow it until reaching Bad Hersfeld again.

Ein Rundkurs entlang dreier Flüsse: Geis, Beise, Fulda.
Der Höhepunkt ist der Mühlenradweg als weitgehend unbekannter, nicht allzu langer aber wunderschöner Geheimtip. Zwar muss man zunächst über den Pommer, um zum Beginn des Radweges zu gelangen, doch dann wird die Mühe belohnt. Der Mühlenradweg verläuft auf schmaleren Wegen als üblich durch das idyllische Beisetal...

Es geht zunächst von Bad Hersfeld im Geistal flussaufwärts. Die Strecke verläuft bis zum Dorf Aua auf einem abseits der Straße gelegenen Radweg durch die Felder. In Aua kann man die etwa 1000 Jahre alte Linde bewundern. @photo[ Linde in Aua](14580021)
Anschließend verläuft die Strecke auf einer Landstraße, die wenig befahren ist. Es geht bis zum Dorf Mühlbach noch seicht bergauf, dann folgt der je nach Kondition durchaus fordernde Anstieg zum Pommer, dem höchsten Punkt der Runde.
Ist der Pommer erst einmal erreicht, lohnt eine lange Abfahrt auf der durch den Wald verlaufenden Landstraße bis Hainrode die Mühe.

Im verschlafenen Hainrode, wo die Beise entspringt, beginnt mit dem Mühlenradweg der schönste Abschnitt der Strecke. @photo[ Beginn des Mühlenradwegs. ](14580020)Der Radweg verläuft anfangs als schmaler Asphaltstreifen am Waldrand unter den schattenspendenden Bäumen und nutzt einige Kilometer weiter dann Wald- und Feldwege. Er folgt dem Flüsschen Beise von der Quelle bis zur Mündung in die Fulda. Das Beisetal ist verschlafen und ruhig. Neben den Wildblumenwiesen und dem idyllischen Bachlauf sind die Dörfer durchaus sehenswert. Schöne Fachwerkhäuser, einige alte Mühlen, sogar ein lebendiges Bienenmuseum gibt es zu sehen. @photo[Lebendiges Bienenmuseum](14581017), @point[hier](d,33901.41)

Entlang der Strecke muss es einmal 26 Mühlen gegeben haben - die meisten erkennt man nicht mehr als solche. Man hat sich jedoch Mühe gegeben, den Mühlenradweg auch über die schöne Landschaft hinaus zum Erlebnis zu machen. Es gibt immer wieder Rastplätze an idyllischen Stellen und hier und da kleine Wasserräder an den Zuläufen der Beise. Außerdem ist ein Teil des Radweges als Naturlehrpfad aufgewertet.

Dem Beisetal schließt sich etwa nach der Hälfte des Flusslaufes eine @photo[alte Bahnstrecke](14581021) an. Die Viadukte der Kanonenbahn erinnern daran, dass auch in solchen ländlichen Gegenden früher einmal Züge fuhren.
Der letzte Abschnitt des Mühlenradweges verläuft schließlich auf einer Landstraße mit minimalem Autoverkehr bis nach Beiseförth durch teils naturbelassene Aue.

In Beiseförth angekommen, zweigt man auf den Fuldaradweg R1 ein und folgt diesem flussaufwärts. Hier gibt es auch ein nettes @photo[indisch/italienisches Restaurant](14581009) (@point[siehe hier](d,40929.53)). Der Fuldaradweg ist überregional bekannt und damit deutlich frequentierter. Gleich nach Beiseförth muss mittels der Fahrradseilbahn der Fluss per Muskelkraft überquert werden. Die @photo[Fahrradseilbahn](14579974) ist im Winter und bei Hochwasser gesperrt, sodass dann auf etwa drei Kilometern ein Hügel auf der Landstraße bewältigt werden muss.
Gleich nach Überquerung der Fulda mit der Seilbahn wird das Fuldatal immer breiter und die restliche Strecke führt durch die weitläufigen Felder von Ort zu Ort.
Man passiert kleine Dörfer mit schönem Ortsbild wie zum Beispiel Binsförth ebenso wie das sehenswerte Kloster Haydau. Weiter flussaufwärts kommt man durch die Fachwerkstadt Rotenburg und schließlich zurück nach Bad Hersfeld.

Im letzten Abschnitt (letzte Hälfte der Tour) folgt man dem Fuldatal, wo auch eine Bahnlinie verläuft. Man kann die Strecke also verkürzen und an einem der vier Bahnhöfe an der Strecke den Zug nehmen (somit kürzeste Variante dieser Route: 40km).

## Streckenbschreibung:
Der GPX-Pfad hat ein paar kleine Abweichungen zur offiziellen Beschilderung vor Ort. Wenn man kein GPS-Gerät hat, oder keinen Zugang zur GPX-Datei, kann man diesen Anweisungen hier folgen.

- Bad Hersfelds Bahnhof zur Stadtseite hin (Nord) verlassen und auf die Hauptstraße ("Friedloser Straße") nach links einbiegen. Nach der großen Kreuzung dann halb-rechts fahren und dem Fluss (Geis) nun stromaufwärts folgen bis die Schilder des Radwegs "R10" auftauchen.

- R10 folgen für etwa 13km vorbei an 4 Dörfern

- Im Dorf "Aua" rechts abbiegen und dann auf die Hauptstraße nach links (westwärts) einbeigen, 300m weiter auf die abzweigende kleiner Hauptstraße nach halb-rechts fahren Richtung Mühlbach.@point[ siehe hier](d,13089.5)

- Der Straße folgen durch Mühlbach hindurch und dann bergauf bis zum höchsten Punkt (Pommer), wo man eine Kreuzung findet. Hier rechts abbiegen auf die Straße nach Hainrode bzw. Ersrode. @point[ siehe hier](d,17742.92)

- Der Straße bis Hainrode oder Ersrode folgen und dann den hölzernen Schildern "MR" (für Mühlenradweg) folgen.@point[ siehe hier; Beginn des Mühlenradwegs](d,23623.11)

- Am Ende des Mühlenradwegs (nach etwa insgesamt 40km) rechts auf den Fuldaradweg R1 einbiegen und bis nach Bad Hersfeld folgen.
