This route takes you around Glenstrup Sø and Mariager Fjord. Besides enjoying riding close to water, there are a number of sights along this route.

Route Details

A major part of this route goes around Mariager Fjord, which besides with a length of approximately 35 km (22 statute miles), is the longest fjord in Denmark, also claims to be the most scenic. Before reaching Mariager Fjord, you will ride around Glenstrup Lake, which with a maximum depth of 31 meters is one of the deepest lakes in Denmark.

Besides a few km on north side of Mariager Fjord, the whole route is on pavement. The short passage with gravel/dirt road can be done on a road bike.

* There is plenty of parking space at [Hvidsten Kro](http://hvidstenkro.dk/forside), and you should absolutely pay this @photo[historical inn](866328) a visit and try their omelette for lunch.

* @poi[Asferg Kirke](1414328) is a beautiful typicial village church daring back to around 1.100 
* Reaching Glenstrup Lake, you can go @poi[for a swim and/or enjoy a nice overview of the lake](1414329)

* A very well preserved @poi[historical viking grave](1414332)called @photo[Kongehøjen Voldstedlund](866356). Excavations in 1961, and the following restoration of the long dolmens, showed it was built in the middle of the New Stone Age, approx. 3.200 B.C. So it was erected long before Denmark became a real kingdom, which was during the Viking Period. The most interesting aspect of the long dolmen, is the almost undamaged stone chain with a total of 62 stones along the foot of the mound, as well as the two very well-preserved tombs, which is hidden in the mound.

# Notes

* If you are riding for fitness, you can easily do this route in one day. Being a family/having a relaxed ride, there are a number of nice places in Hvidsten, Hobro, Bramslev, Hadsund and Mariager to stay for a night.
