State Line Lookout

Route Details

This is a pleasant suburban route from Central Park, across the George Washington Bridge and through Northern New Jersey back into New York State.  At the mid-point of the ride, you'll think you're in the country, miles away from New York City.  You're on top of the Palisade cliffs overlooking the Hudson River.

Leaving Central Park, you'll be on city streets and then @slice[Riverside Drive](d,4945.74,8696.48). (*Stop at the red lights or risk getting a ticket*.) @slice[The entrance to the bridge bicycle path is a little dicey: narrow, with a hairpin turn in the middle of the 6-7% ramp](d,11132.68,11246.65). Put a foot down to "scooter" around the turn, but try not to loose momentum.

This ride is not difficult once you're over the bridge.  There are some rolling hills, but the only real @slice[climb is up to the Lookout](d,31702.18,33220.19), and that's on a traffic free (unmaintained) road. You'll be on busy @slice[Route 9W](d,19504.94,31457.57) for a while, but there's a wide shoulder marked as a bike route.

Once you're at the top, enjoy the view.  In the fall you can see how many different birds of prey you can identify. The @poi[Snack Bar](932279) is good for a simple, inexpensive lunch, fluids and restrooms.

* Ride begins at **@point[Central Park Boat House](d,2.09)**, just north of 72nd St. on the East Drive. Restroom entrances on the outside of the building.
* **[Strictly Bicycles](http://www.strictlybicycles.com/)**, @poi[2347 Hudson Terrace in Ft. Lee, NJ](1288831), a short distance north of the GW Bridge, has restrooms, coffee bar and anything you need for the bike.

* Ride ends at Riverside Drive & W. 72nd St. Check out the statue of [**Eleanor Roosevelt**](http://www.nycgovparks.org/park-features/riverside-park/virtual-tour/eleanor-roosevelt-monument) in the small park on your right.
