Go over the Brooklyn Bridge, wind your way through Brooklyn, and cross a number of bridges to reach Long Beach and ultimately Point Lookout. Ride along the board walk in Long Beach for the fun of it, pick up lunch and eat in the shade on picnic tables on the beach at Point Lookout. The way back goes through Sheepshead Bay and Prospect Park. Or you can shorten the ride by 23 miles if you take the A train back from the Rockaways.

Route Details

This New York City route shows off our bridges and beaches. It's almost totally flat and much of it is on marked bike lanes or bike paths. You can take a swim or sit in the sun for a while, then take the subway home from the Rockaways, about 12 miles from the beach, or ride all the way back to Manhattan.

Important Reminders

  • Be sure to bring snack food and 2 water bottles. It's 31 miles to lunch.
  • Bring a Metro Card in case you want to take the subway home.
  • This is a city ride. Although much of it is on bike lanes, at times you will be riding on somewhat busy city streets. Always signal your intentions to drivers.
