A beatuiful out and back ride in the mountains.

# Route

* Park at @point[Wallace Falls State Park](d,1.51). Bring your [Discovery Pass](http://discoverpass.wa.gov/) or purchase a pass at the parking lot.
* This route is beautiful backroads that parallel HWY 2 from the town of @point[Gold Bar](d,954.91) to the town of @point[Index](d,16321.78). A road continues out of Index about @slice[five and one half miles](d,16384.27,25771.28) to where it has washed out.
* @poi[Index](1039382) has public bathrooms, a museum, a general store/post office, and a resturaunt by the river.
* Many great views of mountains and the Skykomish River.
* There is a @slice[big hill](d,8024.7,10335.72) between Gold Bar and Index of about 600 feet. Once you leave Index you will travel mostly up to the @point[end of the road](d,25759.99).

# Notes

* Spring through fall is the best time for this route. The locals tell me summer weekends the roads can get busy.
* This is an out and back ride.
* Recommend lunch in Index on the way back from the end.
* Bring whatever tools you may need to fix any mechanicals and clothing fit for Washington passes.
* You should be in shape to do long sustained hills.
* Bathrooms and water are available at the start of the ride as well as the town of @point[Index](d,16386.78).
