A nice short flat ride from Gas Works park to Golden Gardens. This is about as easy as it gets in Seattle. Lots of trail. If Ballard roads make you nervous you can return the way you came, back over the locks.

# Route

Cross the street from Gasworks park and follow the Burke Guilman trail under the @slice[Freemont Bridge](d,0,1716.45). Turn off the trail and @slice[cross over the bridge](d,1737.52,2621.56). Follow the @slice[Ship Canal trail](d,2621.56,5978.15) to Fisherman's Terminal. Ride down to the @slice[end of a dock](d,5963.31,6664.23) for a neat view of the water and return. @slice[Continue down to the locks](d,6674.62,8081.26). Walk your bike @slice[across](d,8085.17,8546.85) the locks. Turn left onto the Burke Guilman trail and follow the @slice[trail to Golden Gardens](d,8546.85,11305.97) park. Follow the park road to the end then continue down the trail @slice[to the beach](d,11280.37,12166.48). Explore the park then @slice[return back to the locks](d,12185.05,15778.51) on the Burke Guilman trail. If you want to make a loop @slice[continue straight](d,15766.25,17871.54) where the trail ends on the roads through Ballard. Some of these roads are quite busy until you reconnect with the Burke Guilman trail. You have the @slice[option of returning back across the locks](d,0,8591.63) the way you came if you want to avoid the traffic. If you chose to make the loop @slice[Market Street](d,15778.51,16471.78) is very busy. @slice[Shilshole is better](d,16471.78,18077.73). When you get to the Fred Meyer the Burke Guilman Trail resumes. @slice[Follow the Trail](d,18077.73,21603.56) back to the start.

## Notes
* On Sundays the Femont Market blocks the road to the bridge. Simply go around by using the parking lot toward the canal.

* The busy streets in Ballard is called the *Missing Link*. We are hoping someday to have the Burke Guilman Trail safely bypass this ugly stretch of roads.

* If you are not comfortable with busy roads we recommend you return back across the locks.

* Bicycles must be walked across the locks.
