Star Trek fans, behold. [Riverside, Iowa](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riverside,_Iowa) is the future birthplace of James T. Kirk. The town holds an annual [Trek Fest](http://trekfest.com/) each year in celebration of the Starfleet captain.

Riverside is also home to the @point[Riverside Casino](d,17300.47) and Golf. If you wish to start your ride in Riverside, see the [Iowa City from Riverside loop map](http://ridewithgps.com/routes/10784421).  There is a full service hotel and dining options at the casino.

This route covers some great roads in Johnson and Washington counties. The ride begins at @point[Trueblood Park](d,39.31) on the south side of Iowa City.  There is plenty of parking available. The park has bathrooms and drinking fountains. During warmer months, there is a consession operated near the lodge.

Follow @slice[Gilbert Street/Sand Road](d,7.13,15231.5) south. This part of the route has paved shoulders. Cross F52 at the 4-way stop and continnue south.

Turn west on Hwy 22.  @point[Use caution](d,15252.1). There are no shoulders and it is slightly busy traffic.  Expect to see some trucks, but usually not a problem.

Continue past the casino and @point[under Hwy 218](d,19647.23).  @point[Bud's Meat Market](d,19998.17) is on the south side of the road. There is a limestone trail that continues to downtown Riverside.

In the downtown area, there are two restaurants and two convenince stores.  Stop by the @point[Riverside History Center](d,22349.09).

Route returns to Iowa City on @slice[Oak Crest Hill Road](d,26137.46,40444).  Continue north through Hills, past the Casey's.  Oak Crest Hill Road will @point[turn right](d,41218.02) onto Riverside Drive.

Follow the signs to McCollister Blvd and return to Trueblood Park.

* Park at Trueblood Park in Iowa City.
* Iowa City Trails lead to Trueblood Park.
* Take Gilbert St/Sand Rd south.
* Remain on Sand Rd. to Hwy 22.
* Near Bud's Meats, @slice[a trail continues](d,20036.77,22317.38) to Riverside.
* Return on @slice[Oak Crest Hill Road](d,26137.46,40444) through Hills.
* Turn @point[East on McCollister Blvd](d,41933.13) and return to Trueblood Park.

# Notes

* Route has some paved shoulders and some shared road.
* @slice[Hwy 22](d,15361.91,19956.45) is somewhat busy.
* There are two convenience stores and two restaurants in Riverside.
