A 4hr morning ride to be done when weather and visibility is good to get the most of the stunning views. The route is hilly but no silly steep climbs and it takes you along quiet lanes across Exmoor.

Route Details

# The Route
The route leaves Wellington through the lanes, on through @slice[Oake, Halse and Ash Common](d,0,14542.43) before meeting the @point[B3224](d,14596.01) up towards Exmoor proper. This road climbs steadily up towards Elworthy Cross with great views of the Quantocks across the valley.

A short distance before the cross roads, take a right down towards Stogumber (@photo[more great views](1469152) ) and bear left to @point[Monksilver](d,25905.05).

Once the descent is over (sharp bend at bottom), a flat section takes you through Woodford and eventually to Torre where the @poi[Cider Farm](1791258) is a good coffee stop.

A short way further on is [Cleeve Abbey](http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/cleeve-abbey/) - well worth a visit.

Retrace your path to the White Horse in and then follow the Washford River up the valley to Luxborough for a @poi[good real ale pub](1794720),  passing through Roadwater with a @poi[pub](1794718) and @poi[store](1794719).

From Luxborough the road climbs steadily (13% at times) to the top road. Cross this and the route undulates towards @photo[Upton](1469153) and then climbs onto an @photo[area of moorland](1469159) - more great views before descending through Skillgate (more sharp corners) to reach the @point[B3227](d,56178.54) at Petton.

Go straight across the main road and a gentle climb past a delightful church until you pass along Featherbed Lane through Stawley and other quaint villages, with views on @photo[both sides](1469156) until you reach Langford Budville and on to Wellington.

# Important Reminders

This ride takes about 4 hours, and it needs a day with great visibility to make the effort of climbing worth while.

The roads have good tarmac and cars are rare, but the descents need care as the bends are sharp and there is somtimes loose gravel on the corners.
