# Route

The initial run into @point[Poeng Yaeng](d,26879.49) is rather pedestrian.   Ensure you fuel up as you ride through the village. The climb starts rather abruptly rising up to around 1100m, circling past @photo[view points](1534100), before dropping back down again.

After the initial desent, comes a @slice[second, short climb](d,40853.73,42501.68) of 1.6 km.  Next comes the interesting part, @slice[the 7 Spires climb](d,47823.53,50520.99), hitting 16% in the switchbacks on legs that have just had enough time to stiffen up from the descent!

***Ensure you keep an eye on your speed on the first and second descent. There is always the possibility of a stray dog, roadworks or even some kind of exotic animal crossing the road!***

# Notes

* Best times to ride in Chiang Mai are generally Oct through to Feb
* The route can be done clockwise or counter-clockwise
* Two water bottles required as a minimum
* The ability to ride 100km on the flat is a minimum fitness level to enjoy the Samoeng loop
* Water is available at Poeng Yaeng then again after the descent following the 7 spires. 
* For Emergencies you can turn into Samoeng Village (a further descent) or ask for help at the police box.
