## Planina nad Horjulom
**Planina nad Horjulom** is known as a tour with a @slice[demanding climb](d,20965.81,31178.4) to the church of @photo[St. Andrew](1586296), located at the top of the village named Planina nad Horjulom.  It is also known for the @slice[downhill](d,31178.4,44153.34) that this rides through the forest and past the rare houses; the ride is particularly suitable for the hot summer days. The route is long, about 60 kilometers and takes less than 3 hours. The route is smooth, the traffic is not so heavy.

This trip, like many trips in Polhograjski Dolomiti, begins and finishes at the same point - Lesnina parking place where @poi[Pizzeria Buf](1936700) is located. The location is very close to the highway E61 (Ljubljana ring). The @poi[hotel Four Points](1936701) is located just across the highway. If you need to adjust your bike the @poi[bike shop Svad](1936702) is located few hundred meters from the start point.

The road is suitable for both road and mountain bikes, but the last few hundred meters before the resting place near the church of St. Andrew's is a very @photo[bad gravel road](594309), so with riding a road bike, access to the church is only possible by foot. The tour runs mainly through @photo[forests](912255), meadows and villages where you can rest and get good food and drink in pubs.

Leaving the parking place at Pizzeria Buf we roll through the roundabout towards Bokalci where the first descend starts near abandoned castle Bokalci. The traffic is not so heavy, especially during weekends and after 11.5 km we get to the source of drinking water located very close to one of the gothic church.

A few hundred meters after @photo[gothic church](1588936) we need to turn left across the wooden bridge over stream Gradaščica towards village Dolenja vas, near the village Polhov Gradec. Before village Zaklanec we get @slice[the second descent](d,16421.37,17615.01), and need to put attention towards oncoming cars. During the decent we have a nice @photo[view on the valley](1586254) below.

At the bottom of the hill we need to turn right and ride towards Horjul. On the way to Horjul we reach the Pub at Škof where you can buy food and drink or you can buy some snacks in Horjul at the @poi[petrol station](1936698) owned by the company Petrol. After the village Horjul you will reach the village Vrzdenec, where an @slice[uphill begins](d,20870.91,31205.58).  The ascent culminates in the village Planina nad Horjulom near the church of St. Andrew. Next to the church is a quiet @photo[place to rest](912565), where you can sit on a wooden bench and view the @photo[surroundings](1586292).

As I have mentioned before at the beginning of the directions, we return back to the starting point by the second tour that leads through the woods, so descend all the way down to the first main intersection in the shade. The road is paved, slightly narrower the only expected traffic are the vehicles of the locals returning  home to the few houses that we meet along the way. A larger village with some pubs, Polhov Gradec, is found about 15 km from the end of the tour.

The payment methods are cards or cash (EUR), but please be aware those in some of the mountain huts credit cards are not acceptable. Parking place at the Hotel Four points is payable. Also the parking place at Pizzeria Buff is closed during night hours.

**Safety warnings:**

Around the liturgies on Sunday mornings or church holidays can be higher traffic near the churches. Traffic becomes heavier also during working days when people live the work and drive home or from home to their working place.
