Road Rides in Eastern WA and Idaho

I ride a bike.

For a decade I have averaged about 10,000 miles a year on my road bike. Age and eyesight have reduced my miles and my pace but I'm still out five days a week or more.

Being a regional ambassador helps me achieve three goals.

  1. I want to introduce more cyclists to the great cycling in eastern Washington and north/Central Idaho. The tools RidewitihGPS offers makes redoing a set of maps I created a decade ago for Twin Rivers Cyclists, much easier. Being route planner for the Rotary Rivers and Ridges rides each September leverages my route knowledge by attracting riders throughout the northwest.

  2. I want to expand the number of cyclists in the local area. In numbers, there is safety. Many people in the area do not recognize the bicycle as transportation but most are friendly and careful when driving. The Rivers and Ridges event includes family friendly distances of 7, 15, and 25 which not bring in riders from a distance, but certainly encourages local families to find out what bicycling is all about. The Twin Rivers Cyclists and a Facebook only group called Accidental Bikers also provide ride opportunities for those seeking to learn about bicycling.

  3. I want to improve infrastructure and education for bicyclists and motorists regarding alternative transportation. Working with a local advocacy group, the Lewis Clark Bicycle Alliance, the valley now has a master bicycle plan. It is a start.

At 65 my mileage has decreased and I don't get on the mountain bike any more since my eyesight makes picking a line even in gravel a dicy call. But I'm still out there five days a week. Slow but happy. Join me!

The Routes

The valley, the Palouse, the Southfork: these represent rivers, wheat fields, and forest routes. Enjoy.

You won't find gravel and dirt routes here. That doesn't mean there aren't plenty of both in the area. Check with B&L Bikes and Ride on Bikes, if you want great gravel grinders or singletrack.
