We specialise in the island of Shikoku, Japan
Shikoku is the smallest, least developed of Japan's islands. As such, it's a great place to enjoy the outdoors and it's a mecca for adventure travel.
For cyclists, the gateway to Shikoku is the Shimanami Kaido, a 70 km route crossing the Seto Inland Sea over suspension bridges and beautiful islands.
The interior of the island is mountainous, and Mt. Ishizuchi, the highest peak in western Japan, rises almost in the centre. You can ride over the shoulder of this mountain on the unbelievably scenic UFO Line. Several major rivers flow from Mt. Ishizuchi – the Yoshino, Shimanto, and Niyodo rivers, and they're all great for cycling too. The heavily indented coastline, with the Inland Sea to the north, and the Pacific to the south, offers a wealth of exhilarating rides.
The Shikoku Pilgrimage visiting 88 Buddhist temples around the island, originally undertaken on foot, is now a popular route for cycling too.
Shikoku Tours offers a range of active tours with walking and cycling. We can arrange pottering tours of picturesque historic towns using Brompton folding bikes, or more challenging tours using road bikes. Our partners also offer the latest e-bikes, making it possible for less fit riders to tackle challenging mountain routes.
