Riders follow arrows, their GPSs or printed course maps in a mostly off road course which is set out in ‘Stages’. Each ‘Stage’ has a manned ‘Check Point’ at the end where the riders wait until their designated time to proceed onto the next ‘Stage’. The time to get through each ‘Stage’ and make it to the ‘Check
Point’ is dependent on the class entered and also based on average speed as set by the event organiser.
‘Stage’ time will be set so a rider or riders can stay on time if all is going well.
Depending on the event course, speeds will be set at approximately:
Men’s
Pro/A - 24km
Elite/B - 21km
C - 18km
D - 15km
Women’s
Pro/A - 22km
Elite/B - 19km
C - 16km
D - 14km
During each ‘Stage’ the rider will also be timed to the second on selected ‘Segments’. These segments vary between uphill, downhill, cross country and a combination of all types of terrain and fluctuate in distance.
Small events will have options to ‘Go it Alone’ or ‘Team Up’, but the larger, more remote event courses will most likely be a minimum of a two rider team.
The lowest scoring Rider or Team will be awarded the winner.
