The Healthy City Healthy Planet initiative is an affirmation of teh City of Irvine’s long-held commitment to health, fitness, well-being and the sustainability of our community.
Through the integration of multiple practices into all aspects of City planning and the delivery of municipal services, we are actively supporting the health of our City, our citizens and our planet on a daily basis. This easy-to-navigate page integrates our efforts – as well as our partnerships – under one umbrella. With services targeting Healthy Environment, Living, Habits, Outreach, Youth, Seniors, Community and Eating our lifestyle is supported and enhanced.
One Healthy option is bicycling; The City of Irvine provides a network of on-street and off-street bikeways to encourage the use of bicycles as a healthy, safe and convenient means of transportation for both commuting and recreation. This is evident by 301 lane miles of on-street and 54 miles of off-street bikeways provided in the City today.
In conjunction with this initiative, a free introduction to bicycling and ride is being offered on Saturday, April 21st at Deerfield Community Park. The day before Earth Day, and following the World Health Day April 7th, this event will offer some basics and tips on proper riding, rules of the road, and practice while enjoying a short group ride on some of Irvine’s best bikeways. Any bike is welcome, but we will ride about 10 miles. Helmets are required for riders under 18 & recommended for adults. Riders under 18 should ride with a parent / guardian and all riders will be asked to sign a release before the ride.

WHEN: April 21st 10 AM until Noon

  • TCX Course

Best format for turn by turn directions on Edge 500. Will provide true turn by turn navigation on Edge 800 including custom cue entries. Great for training when we release those features. Not currently optimal for Virtual Partner.

  • TCX History

Useful for uploading your activity to another service, keeping records on your own computer etc.

  • GPX Track (.gpx)

Useful for any GPS unit. Contains no cuesheet entries, only track information (breadcrumb trail). Will provide turn by turn directions (true navigation) on the Edge 605 and 705, but will not have any custom cues. Edge 605/705 users follow these instructions.

  • GPX Route (.gpx)

Only the cuesheet entries, not the entire track. Useful for the Garmin Edge 205, 305 and Edge 500 for turn notifications (turn by turn directions)

  • Cue sheet CSV File (.csv)

Only the cue sheet. You can print it from Excel or another spreadsheet program.
