Route Details

*Lower Klamath Lake Road loosely follows the California-Oregon border with a constant panoramic view of @photo[Mount Shasta](3386412). Enjoy gently rolling hills on near empty roads with the cool little farm town of @point[Merril](d,42102.26) half way through.*

This is a great ride to log some base mileage in the early season or equally great for a beginner cyclist to work their way up to. With no major climbs to speak of, while also not being perfectly flat, this ride can be as hard as you want to make it.

# The Route
You will start out with a @slice[short downhill](d,4927.93,5818.52) on a heavily used highway, but it does have a good shoulder and you're on it for only about a mile. Once you've turned on @point[Tingley Lane](d,7181.74) you can pretty much expect to see only a couple of cars every thirty minutes or so for the rest of the ride.

Stop at the park in Merril underneath the water tower if you need a @poi[bathroom stop](6067946) half-way through. @poi[The Polar Bear](6067947) is a classic drive-through resturaunt that many cyclists use for a quick bite, and it shares parking with the aforementioned bathrooms.

This route is typically clear year around: @photo[when there is snow in town you can normally expect little to no one on the roads out here.](3386414) Expect the prevailing north-west winds to pick up in the afternoon and will factor in to your return from Merril.
