Ranelagh River Ride

Starting and finishing at Hobart’s Sullivan’s Cove, this great ride gives you a scenic tour of Hobart’s heritage and stunning ringside seat on the beautiful River Derwent, mostly on bike lanes and quiet roads. Allow two hours for the ride and coffee, or longer if you plan to stop for lunch or sightseeing. (less)

Ride to MONA and take in some sights along the way. This scenic ride starts at the Hobart Cenotaph and follows the edge of the river to MONA, Hobart's iconic Museum of Old and New Art. The route is mostly on quiet suburban roads, with a little hill in Lutana (this is a great ride on e-bikes!). You'll visit GASP (Glenorchy Arts and Sculpture Precinct). Stop at MONA for coffee, beer, wine, art and music! The return leg is via the shorter, flatter shared path of the Inter City Cycleway, where you will enjoy the exuberant street art of the Corridor of Modern Art (COMA). (less)

Take a spin into the country to sample the beautiful farmland and wineries around Launceston. Start at Brickfields Park (or any where else in the City). We've chosen roads which are relatively bike-friendly - many have marked on-road bikelanes. Once out of town you'll ride past farms and vineyards. Book ahead for lunch at Josef Chromy's. This is a scenic loop out of Deloraine via an active Salmon Farm and scenic country roads. Start at the Deloraine Train Park and travel anticlockwise for safety (mostly left turns). Options for lunch and coffee. (less)

Arriving at Launceston Airport with your bike? Take advantage of the bike setup station and then follow this mostly downhill ride into the city. The second half of the route is supported with onroad bikelanes. (less)

This is a relatively safe and scenic riding route from Devonport to Launceston. You'll avoid the heavy traffic of the Bass Highway, and instead pass through the pretty and historic towns of Latrobe, Deloraine (the halfway point), Westbury, Carrick, and Hadspen. All of these villages offer accommodation and meals. 111.3 km. Note that the Railton bypass requires access to the Tasmanian Trail (register and pay) in order to get keys to some gates. (less)

An easy ride along the level unsealed Pipeline Track, which follows the gentle decline of the old waterpipe. Ride through beautiful temperate forest, enjoy views down to the river, fresh air and fun. A discovery of backroads and bikelanes in West Hobart, Mt Stuart and Lenah Valley. Some easy rolling gravel trails in Knocklofty Reserve. Views, hills and an art gallery. Options include mini picnic at Ancanthe Park, and coffee at your choice of cafes. There's lots of uphill, with a couple of bits quite steep, so this is a good one for e-bikes! (less)

Starting and finishing at Brooke St Pier, this is an easy ride up the peaceful bushland trail of the Hobart Rivulet Track, past the old Female Factory and toward brewery tours at the historic Cascade Brewery. We recommend some safe options for the connection through the city. (less)

This is a quick introduction to the sights of Devonport for travellers arriving on the Spirit of Tasmania. The route shows how to get across the river and how to discover the fab coastal pathway, before diving into the shopping area to pick up some supplies. The trail takes you around Devonport's pretty coastal paths and then takes you down the new riverside trail towards Spreyton, bringing you back to the Waterside Cafe for refreshments. (less)

In the tulip season (September to October) this is a great opportunity for some colour therapy! Ride from Wynyard to Table Cape for the views and the flowers. For more flowers and views you can ride on to the Tollymore Rd lookout and return. Time this ride for late Sept to mid October so that you can walk amongst the tulips at the Van Diemens Quality Bulb farm. The Table Cape only option is 16km return. The ride is mostly on quiet country roads. (less)

An offroad "out and back" ride along the remains of a historic tramline. Visit the fascinating memorial to conservationist Norman Sykes. Includes some on-road sections and some fairly rough gravel sections. Starting and finishing in Railton. Recommended for MTB/ Hybrids/ Bikepacking bikes. (less)

An easy ride around waterbird haven Lake Dulverton and via a rail trail to the old railway town of Parattah. The 66km loop takes you through sheep country on quiet rural roads, about half of it unsealed. There are several shortcut options to choose from - 14km, 25km, 56km. (less)

This is a nice little jaunt from Sullivan's Cove up and around the Queen's Domain, via the Cenotaph and the Remembrance Bridge. Up on the Domain you'll enjoy the easy glide around the Joggers' Loop and the gentle roll back along the Soldiers' Walk. There are great views all the way along of the city, the river and kunanyi/Mt Wellington. (less)

This is a lovely 150 km ride from Hobart to Cygnet and back, prioritising quieter country roads and scenic destinations. There are a number of steep hills and several short sections of gravel (shown in Green). A lot of climbing, good for e-bikes and fit riders. Goes through lovely forests and coastal scenery. Recommended as three days: Day 1 Hobart to Cygnet; Day 2 Cygnet to Woodbridge or Kettering (where you can jump off to visit Bruny Island); Day 3 Kettering to Hobart. A nice one day ride could be created by turning around at Pelverata, or simply continuing from Sandfly through to Margate. (less)

Here's an experience of Tassie's unspoilt bushland, bucolic farming country and Georgian heritage country towns, all in one (approximately 4 hour) ride. The route includes quiet country roads, some sealed and some gravel, and dirt farm roads. There are some steep inclines - and descents - on gravel, so good bike handling skills are required. Riders should be fit and/or use e-bikes for this ride. The start point is on the corner of Lower Marshes Road and Highlands Road, where there is some space for several vehicles to park, although several different options for starting points are also offered.
