Route Details

This is a great day long route to take in the sights and towns along the Maumee River. Old 24 north of the river is smooth with a wide shoulder and little traffic. The roads south of the river, while being a bit rough at times, have even less traffic and plenty of country to explore. Here is how the route breaks down:

1. @slice[There are a few small hills coming out of Sidecut Park to Waterville. This is the most noticeable elevation change in the entire route.](d,0,9728.05)
2. @slice[From Waterville, turn left onto "Old 24", a smooth road with little traffic and a wide shoulder. We are taking this all the way to Defiance. There are restrooms and water at Providence Metropark around mile 15. There is a Shell gas station just across the river in Napoleon.](d,9728.05,47259.49)
3. @slice[More beautiful pavement from Napoleon to Defiance. Once in Defiance, there are parks and restaurants to refresh and refuel.](d,47309.09,76448.5)

4. @slice[Return to Napoleon on the south side of the river. The country roads are not as smooth or wide as Old 24, but there is barely any traffic. Subway is a favorite stop in Napoleon to grab a snack and refill water bottles.](d,76391.9,109095.89)
5. @slice[A jaunt on more country roads. There are public restrooms, restaurants, shops, and a gas station once you arrive in Grand Rapids.](d,109095.89,133792.96)
6. @slice[Despite being fairly rough, Tontogany Creek Road is scenic and shaded. Take your time down this road and give your riding partners plenty of room.](d,152043.72,155940.2)
