This is a classic Eastern Sierra ride passing the namesake June Lake and 3 other stunning lakes. Distant views of Mono Lake and miles of beautiful aspen groves in the fall can make this ride truly special. Be aware this stunning loop that is open from early May to late November each year.

Starting from @point[June Lake Junction](d,16.85), you'll quickly have a small climb over @point["Oh! Ridge"](d,1526.66) named for the reaction induced by the view when one crests it. Cruise downhill into the @slice[town of June Lake](d,3599.27,4384.96) and stock up on snacks or coffee before continuing the downhill cruise past @point[Gull](d,4977.65), @point[Silver](d,10417.75) and @slice[Grant Lake](d,15069.91,21130.19).

After you leave the lakes behind, it'll be a gentle ride to US 395 where you turn right and start @slice[climbing for six miles](d,25373.76,35171.73). The 850 ft climb is well graded with wide shoulders so you'll be done before you know it. If you're still energetic, repeat your first two miles into June Lake (or drive!) for a well-earned post-ride meal.

Most of the June Lake Loop on Hwy 158 lacks shoulders so cyclists need to be comfortable on winding mountain highways with vehicle traffic. Speed limits are lower than many district highways though as Hwy 158 winds through towns and campgrounds along the loop so this can be a good introduction to road cycling. One can also ride shorter segments between lakes for an easier ride.

A good way to get a beautiful ride in that is both easier and shorter is to ride the mostly flat part @slice[between Silver and Grant Lake](d,10742.24,21223.07). Starting at the north end of Silver Lake, riding to the north end of Grant Lake and back, would give one a ride of roughly 12 miles with about 500 ft of elevation gain spread out in gentle climbs.

Be sure to visit all four lakes on this loop! Many of the lakes offer swimming, fishing, boating, camping or other recreational opportunities.

# Important Reminders

A @slice[portion of the loop](d,8235.49,25026) is closed each winter due to snowfall so this loop is only doable from May through November. Be sure to check road conditions at the above links before coming to ride the loop.
