# Route
This ride starts and ends at @poi[Danny's Cycles](1117017) in Mohegan Lake, NY

Start easy with a ride on @slice[Route 6 to Lexington](d,54.16,1236.85), and then prepare yourself of the @slice[fast downhill on Red Mill Rd](d,1267.51,2635.09).  Do not take this hill too quickly. This hill is considered dangerous due to the grade and limited sight around the curves.

Follow Red Mill Rd. through the @point[traffic circle](d,3381.91) noting the closed Carvel to Oregon Road.  The road here is nice and level, and the last of the easy riding before you enter Peekskill.

Make the right on @point[Pemart](d,7598.95), and then the right on Highland for another @slice[fast descent](d,7952.77,8568.09). Don't worry, you will be paying these back in spades soon enough. Stay on Highland Ave as it turns in to Route 9, and the climbing begins.

Climb up Route 9, and turn left at the stop sign. You stay on Route 9 for another few miles, until you reach the traffic light at Route 403. Check your water and food @poi[here](1116977). The next rest stop is in another 6 miles. Climb over one last hump, and enjoy the @slice[down hill run](d,14908.43,17877.31) to Route 9D.

Turning right on to Route 9D, enjoy the scenery, with mountains on your left and the Hudson river on your right. Follow 9D for about 5 miles until you reach the Bear Mountain Bridge.

## Bear Mountain Bridge
Stay on the road here, do not get on the sidewalk, as the space is limited.  Pop your front wheel up at the two bridge joints to avoid getting them wedged, and make your way over to the traffic circle.  The @poi[view](1116978) is fantastic, so don't miss it.

Travel around the circle 270 degrees, or 3/4 of the way, descending towards Bear Mountain State Park. At the first light, @point[turn right in to the park](d,26977.13).

Halfway up the hill, there is a parking lot and @poi[pavillion](1116981) on the right. This is the place to use the facilities and fill up on water. If the pavilion is open, see the @photo[old wooden carousel](833781), and fill your bottles from the concession stand inside.

Go back out to the road and up the hill to the traffic circle

## The Climb

Prepare yourself mentally for 4.5 miles of climbing. 1/4 way around the circle and you are on your way. Wind your way up Seven Lakes Drive, with varying pitch from 3-4%. Some sections are easier than others, but don't gas out here, this is the easiest part of the climb.

Turn right in about 2 miles on @point[Perkins Memorial Drive](d,30633.74). Now the grade kicks up to 6-7% and after the first 1/2 mile, up to a @slice[steamy 10%](d,31365.3,31695.48). At the next turn the grade relaxes a little bit, but is steady until the top.

Enjoy the @photo[view](833783) at the top of Bear Mountain, drink, eat, and get ready for the second half of the ride.

The descent is fun, but check your speed @point[here](d,33380.65) and @point[here](d,32611.84) through these turns, as they are tighter than they appear.

At the bottom, proceed back over the @poi[Bear Moutain Bridge](1116978).

Turn right up Route 6, and @slice[climb carefully until you reach the overlook](d,42804.91,43977.69). From here, you have it made. Most of the climbing behind you, enjoy the @slice[sweeping descent](d,43992.84,47733.83) with banked turns. Many people take the lane when descending here to avoid being pushed aside by car traffic, and you are likely taking the turns faster than the cars anyway.

At the traffic circle refill your water and food at the @poi[Mobile Gas](1116982) Station. Travel back on to 9 North to @point[Roa Hook](d,49672.26), and then up Highland Ave.

Navigate your way through Peekskill to @point[Maple Ave](d,52580.47) and you are greeted with a @slice[very steep](d,52738.58,53295.1), but short climb. Follow Maple to the light at @point[Furnace Dock Road](d,57260.7), where you are on the home stretch. Turning left and climbing back up to the neighborhoods behind Mohegan Lake you return to your start location at @poi[Danny's Cycles](1117017).
