# Route Information

## Parking
Parking at the beginning of the trail is available in the @poi[Sam's Club parking lot](725276), near the junction of 9A and 287. This is the beginning of the North County Trail.

The North County trail is a 26 mile, fully paved, mostly private (no car traffic) bike/hiking path that follows the path of the "Old Putnam" train line.

## The Ride
Start going North, and the trailway follows the Saw Mill Parkway, and then the Taconic Parkway. @point[At mile 7, the path merges with Route 100 North](d,11276.08). The shoulder here is very wide and the road is lightly trafficed. Approximately 1/2 mile later, the path @point[picks up again](d,12056.73) on the Northbound side of Route 100 and continues for another 1.5 miles before putting y@point[ou back on to Route 100 again](d,14624.07). Less than a mile later, the path @point[picks up again](d,15969.22) and you leave Route 100 behind for good.

*If you want to avoid all of the "on and off" of Route 100, most people just opt to ride the full stretch on Route 100. The shoulder is in good condition for the entire duration.*

Before you get back on the bike path, if you want to stop @poi[here](725277) for lunch or drinks, there is a nice cafe.

Continue North on the bike path until you reach the train tressel bridge. Stop @poi[here](725278) to relax and take pictures.

Continue North, over 118, being careful to watch for traffic around the curve. It is recommended to walk your bike across @point[this intersection](d,21898.61).

The next 2.5 miles are all slightly @slice[uphill](d,21409.62,25720.69), but not steep. At the top, you are at the halfway/turn around point for this ride. There are many delicatessens nearby to get a sandwich or lunch, and enjoy a @poi[picnic lunch](725279) at @photo[Railroad Park](835432). If you need bike repairs or bike sundries, stop by @poi[Yorktown Cycles](725280), and they will be happy to help.

If you are feeling adventerous, you can continue on North for another 18 miles to Brewster, NY, or you can turn around.

The return route is identical to what you have already ridden, with more downhills than uphills. Enjoy them, as you earned them! You are also likely to see deer, squirrels, rabbits, groundhogs, and possibly fox on the trail, so keep your eyes open!
