# Katarina over Ljubljana
**Katarina over Ljubljana** or simply **Katarina** is named after the name of church of @photo[church of Saint Catherine](1439597), which is located on a hilltop in the village Topol near Medvode. This is one of the preferred destinations in Polhgrajski Dolomiti for the locals who wish to have an after work bicycle ride and at the same time to taste the charm of the cycling ascent. In just 25 kilometers and an hour and a half of rapid cycling you can experience the charm of @photo[the city center](1466709) in one of the European capitals with its castle and @photo[quiet mountain village](1439592).  Cyclists can also enjoy a tourist stop for food and drink at a few local taverns along the route.

The trip begins and finishes at Lesnina parking place where @poi[Pizzeria Buf](1793900) is located. The location is very close to the highway E61 (Ljubljana ring). The hotel Four Points is located just across the highway. If you need to adjust your bike the @poi[bike shop Svad](825886) is located a few hundred meters from the start destination. The road is asphalt and convenient for road and also mountain bikes. The route mostly rides through forests, meadows and villages where you can rest and get good food and drink in pubs. The trip is around 25 km long and it will take you from one and a halfs to two hours. It depends on how much time you spend on observation of the surroundings.

Leaving the parking place at Pizzeria Buf we pass the roundabout towards Bokalci where the @slice[first descend](d,300.05,972.16) begins. The traffic is not too heavy, especially during weekends. At the end of the descent, you need to turn sharp right and continue passed the tennis hall. The tour continues through some villages and a few hundred meters before the restaurant Gostilna Kramarjev Hram is visible on the main road Ljubljana-Polhov Gradec.

Around 1300 m after the restourant Kramarjev Hram you should turn sharp on the right, where the ascent begins, ending slightly nearby the restaurant Gostilna na Vihri. Ability and the endurance of the cyclist is measured by the time of cycled rise on @slice[this ascent](d,7840.08,12104.33).

600 m before the end of the ascent a ride past the restaurant @poi[Gostilna Dobnikar](825884), where you can relax in @photo[their garden](1439599) on the your way back down and observe the neighboring mountains.

# Important Reminders

The payment methods are cards or cash (EUR), but please be aware those in some of the mountain huts credit cards are not acceptable. Parking place at the Hotel Four points is payable. Also the parking place at Pizzeria Buff is closed during night hours.

**Safety warnings:**

Around the liturgies on Sunday mornings or church holidays can be higher traffic near the churches. Traffic becomes heavier also during working days when people live the work and drive home or from home to their working place.
