The ascent to Krim is one of the toughest cycling climbs in surrounding area of Ljubljana, suitable for mountain bikes, primarily because the last 8 kilometers of the road is made of macadam. Due to the constant rise, beginning almost from the parking lot is intended for physical condition prepared cyclists.

# The edge of Ljubljana Basin area
## The hill Krim

The hill **Krim** is 1107 meters high in the southern outskirts of Ljubljana basin. From the city center is about 15 kilometers far away. Due to its location and shape, Krim is one of the most recognizable mountains in the vicinity of the Ljubljana basin, which is visited each year by thousands of mountaineers and hikers. At the top of the antenna towers is located a [mountain hut](http://www.domnakrimu.si/).  In winter, when the Ljubljana basin is dominated by fog and low cloud for several weeks, a trip to the top of Krim is the nearest point where you can find the sun. From the summit there is a beautiful view of Ljubljana basin, Karavanke, Kamnik Alps and part of the Julian Alps.

The route begins in the village Podpeč, at the @poi[Mercator shop](1930056), where you can also buy drinks and snacks for the road. At the parking lot is a roundabout near a @poi[petrol station,](1930054) where you can also buy some snacks and drinks, or use the toilets.  At the roundabout, focusing towards the village Kamnik under Krim, we turn left on an uphill at the first junction. From here it is a constant ascent to the summit of Krim. On the left side you can see the church @poi[Saint Anna](1930055) sitting on the hill. From there, you can gaze upon the beautiful views of the @photo[surrounding mountains](1583548) and @photo[hills](1583415), especially in the @photo[dawn](1583549).

When we leave the base of @photo[the hill Saint Anna](1583560), we ride continuously on beautiful asphalt all the way to the @photo[crossroad Krim Rakitna](1583639), where you turn left on the unpaved road up to the top of the hill. At this point we are 8 kilometers away from the top of the hill. From @photo[the top](1583664) the mountain hut @photo[Dom na Krimu](1522058), we have a nice view of the @photo[surrounding mountains](1522025).

# Important Reminders

The payment methods are cards or cash (EUR), but please  ***be aware***  - the mountain hut, Dom na Krimu [www.domnakrimu.si/](http://www.domnakrimu.si/), does not accept credit cards. Parking at the Mercator shop is free.

**Safety warnings:**

Driving through this route requires attention in traffic, although the ride take us through villages and uninhabited areas. Part of the way @slice[between the hill of the church at Saint Anna and the crossroads Krim Rakitna](d,3137.85,10147.54) is very good, with transparent curves, where bikers test their skills. The @slice[last 8 kilometers](d,10192.11,18136.67) of the ride is narrow  macadam, where we are also faced with the oncoming cyclists and passenger cars.

Around the liturgies on Sunday mornings or church holidays can be higher traffic near the churches. Traffic becomes heavier also during working days when people live the work and drive home or from home to their working place.
