API Terms of Service

We built the Ride with GPS API to be useful. Individuals, community projects, and businesses are welcome to build with it.

These API Terms of Service ("API Terms") supplement the Ride with GPS Terms of Service. They apply to your access to and use of the Ride with GPS API, API documentation, credentials, and data made available through the API (together, the "API"). By using the API, you agree to these API Terms and the Ride with GPS Terms of Service. If they conflict, these API Terms control only for your use of the API.

Access and eligibility

Anyone may use the API. You do not need a paid Ride with GPS plan, a commercial agreement, or prior approval. You do need a Ride with GPS account and an API client, and you must follow the authentication requirements in this documentation.

There is no limit on the number of users who may connect to your API client.

Commercial use

You may use the API in free or paid products and services, including products that support your business or your customers.

Commercial use does not give you ownership of Ride with GPS data or another person's data. You may access and use data only as authorized by the user, the API, and applicable law. You are responsible for your product, your users, and your compliance with privacy, data protection, consumer protection, and other laws that apply to you.

Attribution

No attribution to Ride with GPS is required. If you mention Ride with GPS or use our logos or other brand assets, follow our Logos and Assets guidelines and do not imply that Ride with GPS endorses, sponsors, or operates your product.

Rate limits

We do not currently impose fixed request rate limits. Please use the API responsibly: request only what you need, cache data when appropriate, use webhooks instead of frequent polling, and back off when requests fail or the service is under load.

We monitor API use to keep Ride with GPS reliable and safe. We may throttle, reject, or block traffic, suspend credentials, or end API access if we reasonably believe use is abusive, harmful, unlawful, deceptive, insecure, or likely to disrupt the API or Ride with GPS. We may act without advance notice when prompt action is needed to protect users, Ride with GPS, or others.

Examples of abusive use include attempting to bypass authentication or security controls, accessing data without authorization, overwhelming the service, introducing malicious code, interfering with other users, or using the API in a way that violates another person's privacy or rights. This list is illustrative, not exhaustive. If your use will generate unusual traffic or you are unsure whether it is appropriate, contact developers@ridewithgps.com. We would rather help you design it well than block it later.

Your responsibilities

Keep your API keys, client secrets, and access tokens secure. You are responsible for activity under your credentials and for promptly telling us if they may have been compromised.

Collect, store, use, share, and delete API data only as authorized by the user and permitted by law. Use reasonable safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the data. Do not misrepresent your identity, your product, or your relationship with Ride with GPS, and do not use the API to violate the law or another person's rights.

Changes and availability

We may add, change, restrict, suspend, or discontinue any part of the API, including features, data, eligibility, access, or these API Terms. We may also introduce rate limits or other access controls in the future.

For changes that are likely to materially affect a working integration, we will give reasonable advance notice when practical, normally through the API Change Log, an email to the address associated with your API client, or both. We may make changes without advance notice when needed for security, privacy, legal compliance, abuse prevention, or the health of the service.

The API is provided under the warranty disclaimers and limitations of liability in the Ride with GPS Terms of Service. We do not promise that the API will always be available, error-free, or compatible with every existing integration.
