turkey Hill – the best climbing option for those cycling in the northwest corner of Dutchess County – offers 4 or 5 routes up and over the hill with lots of rewarding views: Catskills, farmhouses, rivers and lakes. It's up and down and painfully fun!

Turkey Hill is is beautiful hill with multiple ways to climb it.   It is not easy but is worth it if you take it on - great for the scenery or the perfect quick burst training ride.

# Route

* Parking: adjacent to the @poi[Gallatin Town Court](1472757)[](1472756) if riding the route as is; or if riding from Red Hook, there is plenty of parking in town and easily connect via Echo Valley Road.
* The @slice[intial climb up Rt. 56](d,2902.74,4671.86) is probably the 2nd most difficult approach.   Continue to the second right if you want to reach the top of Turkey Hill right off the bat and Fitzsimmons road will reconnect you to the route.
* @slice[Becker Hill Road](d,33136.78,34562.82) has some of the best views of the Catskills on this route.
* Crossing the @poi[Roeliff Jansen Kill](1472756)[](d,23763,25449.13) is one of the more refreshing sights.   Feel free to cool off in the water if the river is not running to high.
* All the climbs ascend between 3-400 feet.   @slice[Willow Road](d,42640.07,44949.89) is certainly the most challenging with steeper gradients in the upper teens.
* I normally avoid @slice[Rt. 199](d,23763,25399.04) or @slice[Rt. 9](d,21110.77,21383.1) if riding Turkey Hill alone. This loop is only on these roads for a little over a mile; but nonetheless, use caution on these roads.

# Notes

* Turkey Hill can be climbed many different ways, all providing different levels of difficulty.  
* For caffeine in Red Hook, try Taste Budds or the Enchanted Cafe.   Post ride, in Summer, enjoy the outdoors with a burrito from Bubby's Burrito stand, just west of the high school on 199.
