This route, slightly longer than a metric century, is largely rolling - to- flat with some awesome scenic climbing in the middle. Starting in Hillsboro, it rambles south down the Tualatin Valley through Forest Grove and Gaston - bottoming out near the town of Yamhill. The mid-point turn is a gorgeous and challenging ride around the Woodland Loop.

Route Details

## ROUTE:

You begin by Liberty High School in Hillsboro - take the Cornelius Pass Exit N off OR 26. The route leads back over OR 26 and west on Evergreen. It passes through Verboort and then heads south to Forest Grove - where you pass through the campus of @poi[Pacific University](1018262). Then you'll turn onto 21st Ave and see @poi[Maggie's Buns](945248) - one of Portland Velo's favorite coffee stops. You'll continue to ride south following Old Hwy 47 and then Dilley Rd - on which you'll ride past the @poi[Montinore Vinyards](1018263) - open daily for wine tasting.  After this you'll be on OR 47 for a short while - caution, fast traffic. Then it's following Old 47 again over some nice rollers to a stop at the @poi[Lake Stop Grocery](945247) - a good rest and snack stop (aside: for another ride, Hagg Lake is just up Scoggins Valley Rd from here).  As you continue on Old 47 be @point[cautious crossing the RR tracks](886,0.624) - they are "as bad as they get".  You continue to follow Old Hwy 47 through Gaston - don't miss the left turn at mile 22.5 - staying on Old 47.

Once past Gaston it's a series of rollers to the intersection with Laughlin Rd, and a mild warm-up climb. At the intersection of OR 240 go left for half a mile and then a left brings you onto @slice[Woodland Loop Rd - for a great climb](1371,152), wonderful scenery and a @slice[gorgeous descent](1524,123). Be careful in the last couple turns of the descent (mile 38) as they are tight, steep, sometimes have gravel, and drops you immediately onto a STOP on Laughlin - i.e. take it easy!

You then retrace your miles north back to Gaston Rd and beyond, to Fern Hill Rd. We call it the "@slice[Fern Hill Freeway](2168,126)" - as it's the perfect places to let the horse go for 3 miles. But, save a bit as it's still 16 miles to home - but, relatively flat.  Next it's through Cornelius and then back into Hillsboro via Hornecker and Evergreen. Once off Evergreen you'll pass @poi[Longbottom's Coffee](945243) on 235th.  If you desire a coffee and snack prior to ride end - stop here. After this it's two miles back to the school.
