Most people know about the amazing trails west of Bend near the Phil's Trail area but there is also some amazing less traveled trail east of town. Horse Butte trailhead is the start/end of the Swamp Wells ride. This is a BLM trailhead so you don't need a forest service pass.

It is is BLM managed, therefore you don't need a forest service pass to park at the trailhead. As you glide through the juniper forests, remember to be respectful not to spook a horse coming and going from the trailhead. This area does get sandy in the dry months so riding during the October-April months is ideal. (less)
