After a steady climb heading north out of town, this route crosses the Middle River twice while passing through rolling farmland. This is an intermediate ride with some climbing and a few fast descents. The route is entirely on low-speed rural roads, with the exception of one @slice[0.30-mile dog-leg](d,30265.95,30706.98) on US 250 between Galena and Frog Pond Roads.

**PARKING:** Park in Gypsy Hill in the vicinity of the duck pond to begin the route on Springhill Road (VA 613).

**START:** Gypsy Hill Park, 600 Churchville Avenue, Staunton Virginia 24401

**DIRECTION:** The figure eight begins counter-clockwise heading north on Springhill Road.

**DIFFICULTY/CHALLENGES:** This is an intermediate ride with steady climbing and a few fast downhill sections. It descends to the @point[Middle River](d,12515.51), follows the river for almost 4 miles, @photo["the Middle River Breakaway,"](1416447) and eventually crosses the meandering @point[Middle River again](d,20359.37) before climbing back to Staunton. The route is entirely on paved roads, with two large intersection crossings going out of, and returning to town at VA 262/Woodrow Wilson Parkway. Cross @poi[VA 262/Woodrow Wilson Parkway](1765370) at Springhill Road and travel @slice[along US 250](d,30265.95,30706.98)  and  with caution.

**FACILITIES ON ROUTE:** Route starts in Staunton with ample opportunities for food and rest rooms. There are facilities across the street from the park at a gas station/convenience store, as well as at @poi[Queen City Brewing](a46d9dcd72617317eb090000), just across Churchville Avenue on Springhill Road. If you are lucky enough to end your ride midday Tuesday-Friday, you can even have lunch at @poi[Mike Lund Food](1694698).
