Route Details

After a steady climb heading north out of town, this route rolls through gentle hills along Roman and Fadley Roads. The big reward is the expansive view of the Alleghany Mountains once you turn back to the south on Ridge Road. After a descent to @poi[the Middle River](1740481), this figure 8 ride climbs steadily back to its highest point just outside of Staunton, then coasts nicely downhill back to the start.

**PARKING:**
Park in Gypsy Hill in the vicinity of the duck pond to begin the route on Springhill Road (VA 613).

**START:** Gypsy Hill Park, 600 Churchville Avenue, Staunton Virginia 24401

**DIRECTION:** The figure eight begins counter-clockwise heading north on Springhill Road.

**DIFFICULTY/CHALLENGES:** This is an intermediate ride due to its length, but the hill climbs are relatively mellow for this area. You can recover from the steady climbing on Springhill Road once you turn onto Roman and Fadley Roads. The route is entirely on paved roads, with a large intersection crossing going out of, and returning to town at VA 262/Woodrow Wilson Parkway. Cross VA 262 first on @poi[Springhill Rd](1740383) and then on @poi[Shutterlee Mill Rd](1740384) with caution.

**FACILITIES ON ROUTE:** The route starts in Staunton with ample opportunities for food and rest rooms. There are facilities across the street from the park at a @poi[gas station/convenience](1740385) store, as well as at @poi[Queen City Brewing](1740386), just across Churchville Avenue on Springhill Road. If you are lucky enough to end your ride midday Tuesday-Friday, you can even have lunch at @poi[Mike Lund Food](1740387).
