Rode solo. Training ride for the 1000k; miles and climbing. I went at a sustainable pace on the way out, and I was slow but OK at an average of 11.3 mph, My avg heart rate was evidently 131.7 bpm, so that is also OK.
My legs felt good on the way back, and I did not really attack anything really hard, but I was faster on the little climbing there was, and I was going well on the flats and descents, a 16.1 mph avg.
Weather was perfect! A beautiful day in the mountains, and it was nice coming back in the late afternoon; the shadows gave a fresh look to all the scenery.
My stopped time as originally posted was way off and that affected the original data on my average speed, so I drilled down to what stopped time I could actually find:
13:49 at Newcomb's - outbound
26:46 in Wrightwood for lunch
Total for food/water: 40:35
The rest could only be stopping to take pictures, or to answer the call of nature. Searching for the stopped time at the locations where I took pictures:
Stopped Time for pics:
1:49 - #1, top of Upper Big T
13:49 - Newcomb's stop
0:00 - Cloudburst
1:06 - 2nd pic at Dawson (by sign) [lots of small bits of stopped time recorded around here]
3:34 - near Grassy Hallow (this data is solid, and there is no significant "scatter" of stopped time around it)
2:38 - just before Inspiration Point (pic of Baldy) [this is reasonable]
0:06 - Blue Ridge
1:31 - Wrightwood town sign (lots of scattered stopped time in this area)
0:00 - LA County line (I took this while peddling)
2:30 - return leg near Dawson, looking back
0:38 - past Islip, nearing tunnel
With the stopped time for lunch in Wrightood of 27:04, that totals 54:45.
That leaves only 3:24 of stopped time unaccounted for.
Avg speed when moving -
Outbound:
70.4mi/6:14 = 11.3 mph
Return:
70mi/4:21 = 16.1 mph
Original data upload showed an outbound average speed of 12.4 mph with an elevation gain of 9,600', and a return leg avg. speed of 20.7 mph, producing an overall avg moving speed of 15.5 mph, which I was all to ready to believe! LOL. My actual average was only 13.3 mph.
