Eleven follow me out of Uxbridge on what turns out to be a glorious autumn day. Riders are: John Mac, John W, John M, Stu M, Steve C, Cliff J, Jim H, Phil H, Noel ?, Sandra G, Brian ? By the time we get to the top of Chandlers Hill, it's time to take off a layer. At Alderbourne Lane we encounter three horses and their riders. One of the horses is a bit skittish, so we slow right down to pass them. Through Burnham Beeches we soon arrive at Burnham Village, and our coffee stop at Sunrise Cafe.
Afterwards we continue to Taplow and Maidenhead. From there my route takes an unfamiliar direction for most people. There is a muffled cry of anguish as we head towards what looks like a retail park; shortly followed by a sigh of relief as we join route 4 cycleway. This cycleway eventually gets us to the Knowl Hill track with open fields. We all stop to watch an aircraft out of White Waltham doing some mad aerobatics. I later find out it's a CAP 232 with a large American Lycoming engine. We soon reach our lunch stop, The Cricketers at Littlewick Green and eat outside in the sunshine. John M and friend Brian leave us here.
We return by a similar route until we get to Bray. There is a short interlude for puncture repairs to Phil's bike. Sandra supplies the tweezers and John W extracts the offending piece of gravel embedded in the tyre. The afternoon stop is at Dorney Court. We are down to six by now.
Our journey continues on route 61 (Jubilee River) and continues more or less on this route until we get to Cowley. John Mac leaves around Upton and Sandra leaves a Langley Park. I'm on own my own from about Hillingdon Hospital onward.
Cheers
Bernie
