Five follow me out of Uxbridge. It's always best when booking a table for six, to make a quick getaway from Market Square. As luck would have it I was followed by five others, now how did that happen? We have to battle a strong head wind, making Chandlers Hill feel a bit like Stoney Lane. We wobble around Pinewood to our coffee stop at south Bucks Golf Club. Afterwards we skirt Burnham Beeches and approach Bourne End from the south via Cliveden. Our lunch venue is The Spade Oak pub. although we are early we have to wait over an hour for the food to arrive. While we wait, we are slowly becoming asphyxiated by an open log fire. Most of the smoke is venting into the room rather than up the chimney. The food when it does arrive is tasty enough, but I won't be visiting the place again during the winter months. Having seen my plans for the return leg, Cliff decides to make his own way back. After climbing Kiln Lane, Jim peels off as well. The rest of us continue north to Beaconsfield and Knotty Green. We turn east and get blown towards Chalfont St Peter. John Mac says farewell. Angela provides afternoon tea/coffee and cake. Very kind.
