What is it with some people? Why do they find delight in breaking glass on bike and jogging trails, especially asphalt bike trails in county parks that were built for everyone’s enjoyment? Those types of people are the scum of our world. They are hell-bent on finding various ways to destroy all that is pleasant.
What I’m referring to is all the broken glass scattered throughout CB Smith Park in Pembroke Pines, Florida - parking lots included. There are some really bad sections where large slivers of glass have remained throughout the year, which doesn’t say much for the county workers that are supposed to be maintaining our tax-supported retreats. Maybe it’s not in their latest union contract to sweep up glass.
I feel especially bad for the mothers that take their small children to our parks for recreational purposes, believing that their young ones are safe from harmful debris. Guess what, moms, it just ain’t so!
Anyway, after riding my mountain bike in the park for eight miles, I then rode along busy Flamingo Road and Pines Boulevard, being ever so thankful that I no longer have to mingle with morning or afternoon traffic. Retirement is wonderful!
I then rode past an elementary school where I witnessed a convoy of moms rushing into the school to drop off their children and then rushing back out onto the busy roadway – ignoring all pedestrians and cyclists that were attempting to cross the school’s one vehicular exit. They need to fix that dangerous situation.
Everyone’s in a hurry, but enjoying life less and less – or so it seems.
