I had all these ideas for training rides but didn't really want to do any of them in the heat by myself. I also really wanted to do dirt more than road and I settled on this ride trying out some new trails. And as usual I didn't get started until close to lunch.
The first new trail, Spring Ridge Trail, in Windy Hill Open Space Preserve was STEEP and fully exposed in the midday heat climbing up to Skyline. That took so much out of me I wasn't sure I should do the full ride. Luckily from that point on it wasn't as hot.
Next up was Ridge Trail in Russian Ridge. It started off as this wide smooth gravel road, which I was really loving. Then all of a sudden there was a do not enter sign and the trail sign pointed off to this single track trail. It started off as overgrown, (under used?) then got pretty rocky, then it got even more overgrown. Kinda neat but also kinda not great.
The plan was to stay in Russian Ridge and follow the trails down to W. Alpine but I was running low on water so I headed back to Skyline to go to the fire station that was actually somewhere else. I went back in to Russian Ridge for some dirt fun before detouring down to Portola Redwoods SP instead of Camp Pomponio so I could get water.
On Old Haul Rd. I met the MTBer who had setup up booby traps... um logs across the trail to jump on the way back home. The first one I came across definitely looked like a log that was placed instead of fallen and I thought maybe someone was passively aggressively trying to slow people down. I got to use the new dropper post a bunch and it's great! I really like it!
After that it was on to Pescadero for lunch. I wasn't even half way yet and I was feeling pretty tired already. On the way to Purisima Creek I wasn't sure if I would make it up. Fortunately the trail isn't as steep as Harkin's Trail and it was pretty nice.
I got a boost of energy once I was back in Woodside.

Best format for turn-by-turn directions on modern Garmin Edge Devices
Best format for turn by turn directions on Edge 500, 510. Will provide true turn by turn navigation on Edge 800, 810, 1000, Touring including custom cue entries. Great for training when we release those features. Not currently optimal for Virtual Partner.
Useful for uploading your activity to another service, keeping records on your own computer etc.
Useful for any GPS unit. Contains no cuesheet entries, only track information (breadcrumb trail). Will provide turn by turn directions (true navigation) on the Edge 705/800/810/1000/Touring, but will not have any custom cues. Works great for Mio Cyclo. Find GPS specific help in our help system.

Each time you upload a new ride, your Estimated Time profile will adjust to reflect your most recent riding. Only rides exceeding 10 miles (16 km) will affect these estimates.
