Thursday 8th Aug well back on the bikes today after are rest day. Unfortunately the spare parts did not arrive in time, allegedly the pannier stuff is in Moscow and the tyres in Tashkent! So we have had to make do and mend, nothing can go wrong.
With the bikes all ready we had breakfast at the hotel then set off around 08:30. Like always bit difficult getting out of the city, but we were soon out of the city heading for Jizzak, we stopped on the outskirts for water top ups and bit of chat with the owners.
The road was pretty good but we knew we had a head wind for most of the day, so it was just a matter of pushing through it. The scenery was changing first through fruit fields, apple trees mainly, it made a really pleasant change from the desert and you could see the mountain ranges through the hazy sun, all making for different riding.
We stopped for a coffee and soft drink, Keith said no coffee what sort of cafe is this, the guy just smiled at him and said we have char, so thats what we had. the head wind was getting a bit stronger, but we were making reasonable progress, with the knowledge that within the next 10 miles or so we should be finished with the climbing, with Linney doing his good stuff on the cafe spotting he reliably informed us there was a place to have lunch
in around 22 miles time. As we came near to the place there were around 5 or 6 different places all with guys outside trying to get you in there place, we went in one all getting sorted when Linney said not this one, as a women had given him the heads up not to go to this place, so we moved on to the next. The guys pestered around us a bit but seemed ok, we just had a samosa thing tea and a soft drink. When it came to the bill it was a different story, they tried to rip us off, not the best idea with Keith around, they then took some off the bill, Keith still not happy, so we left what we thought it was worth, then left, first time this has ever happened in Ubekastian for us.
We moved on after this, with only 19 miles to go, just short we stopped for a melon and a nice flavored drink, then rolled into the town.
First hotel was booked, probally for the best as the second one was a bit better, the girl at the desk soon had us all sorted, before we knew it Linney was training in the pool.
Good to be back on the bike again
