Roughly speaking, I started at 5AM and finished at 10PM. I rode solo all day, except for part of a mile early on when I sat on the wheel of a long train of fast riders before daylight (before the green bridge).
This is an exceptional route, and I would consider it one of the two most scenic on in the CTC series, together with Eastern Sierra. (Thus, it supplants the Central Coast Double, which heads north on CA-1 for about 42 miles to Nacimiento from Cambria. This keeps to the ocean side of the road for about 52 miles from Carmel to Nacimiento.
I still do not have "climbing fitness", and so I was conservative in the level of my effort on much of this course, and I had a ton of stopped time, both at the rest stops, and more stopped time taking pictures.
Garmin showed 198.4 miles; I removed the speed sensor data to correct the distance.
About 1 hr 37 min at rest stops;
About 35 min. chewed up by stopping to take pictures; and-
About 25 more minutes of misc. stopped time not otherwise accounted for. (Presumably traffic stops, "convenience" stops, stops to check on another rider, etc.)
Rest stops:
01:43 RS#1 (had to check in, so grabbed some calories)
09:30 RS#2 (Cahoon Summit; calories, fluids and port-a-potty)
25:18 RS#3 (Carmel Valley; waited to buy 2 tubes, calories, fluids and rest room)
47:14 Big Sur Taproom (very good food, and 1 pt. of local IPA was awesome! LOL)
09:27 Lucia water stop (that long? wow...)
03:47 Summit water stop atop Nacimiento (water, cookies, & went back for water bottle)

1:36:59 stopped at rest stops

1:17:36 Carmel Valley to Lucia

Best format for turn by turn directions on Edge 500, 510. Will provide true turn by turn navigation on Edge 800, 810, 1000, Touring including custom cue entries. Great for training when we release those features. Not currently optimal for Virtual Partner.
Useful for uploading your activity to another service, keeping records on your own computer etc.
Useful for any GPS unit. Contains no cuesheet entries, only track information (breadcrumb trail). Will provide turn by turn directions (true navigation) on the Edge 705/800/810/1000/Touring, but will not have any custom cues. Works great for Mio Cyclo. Find GPS specific help in our help system.
Estimated Time shows a prediction of how long it would take you to ride a given route. This number is based on your recent riding history, and represents an estimate of moving time. Each time you upload a new ride, your Estimated Time profile will adjust to reflect your most recent riding. Only rides exceeding 10 miles (16 km) will affect these estimates.
