We have a shiny new arrow in our ride quiver. The HOOT is a sweet trail. The new trailhead at Ariel~Foundation Park in Mt. Vernon
is excellent. Mt. Vernon did a very nice job on this reclaimed industrial park.
This was Jack and Kathy’s first GWNN recumbent ride. A special thanks to Kathy for finding this new trailhead.
We met at the parking lot near the giant smokestack (nice landmark, easy to find) and set off to explore this huge park with restrooms, lovely lakes and lots of paved park roads. All that was missing was food.
The weather was near perfect, especially considering what the last 4 weekends have been like.
We rolled west toward Centerburg on a lovely partly shaded trail. There is a near constant 1-2% grade until we crossed SR 3 just east of Centerburg. Not a bad climb at all but provided a sweet return leg to Mt. Vernon. Freewheeling is good.
Post ride chow was at Jake’s, of course. Deep fried mushrooms!
All in all, a great ride.
