Another hike a bike day, with more hiking than biking.
After the first 15km of road, the ‘road’ on the map becomes unpaved section. It is deeply rutted, with a rocky surface covered with some dirt and a surface layer of pine needles. Turned in to a hike for me, but I was using only 32mm tires on my Surly Cross Check. Sections could be ridden on a MTB, IMO.
The next climb is bikeable until the beginning of the trail. The map is accurate here. This was one of the most interesting trails I’ve done. Very well marked with red stickers all the way. Also, interestingly balanced stone stacked trail markers are all along the trail. There is also a large pine tree with branches curling up like a handlebar moustache. Add to that the moss-covered stones everywhere, and the trail had a bit of a magical feel to it.
At the upper part of the trail, it gets rocky as the trail follows the riverbed. Towards the top it gets rather steep. When I finally got to the ridgeline, I had hoped it would be an easy hike, but it wasn’t to be. The ridgeline was very narrow and dangerous. I saw rope lines everywhere in front of me and steep cliffs to my right. So, turned around and headed back.
This was probably one of the most interesting hikes I’ve done so far…especially the lower part of the trail. There are several places the trail crosses the riverbed, and it has been dry for a couple weeks, so not sure how it would be in the rainy season or after several days of rain.
