Phil, Warren and I went out today to recon an MTB route at Mt Spokane State Park, (MSSP), which we're planning to offer as a club ride this coming weekend.
MSSP is a beautiful place especially this time of year with the changing colors.
A description of the route itself is as follows and is for the benefit of those considering participating.
First, as I mentioned the scenery is breathtaking with many vistas. The route traverses three summits, Mt Spokane, Mt Kit Carson and Day Mountain. It's a combination of single track and old service roads on varying terrain. Rider ability for this route requires good fitness and intermediate MTB skills at minimum. Riders should not be misled by the total distance, I guarantee that upon completion of the route riders will be fully aware of their accomplishment. This route incorporates a full gamut of MTB skill sets to include; climbing, descending, navigation through switchbacks, rocks and roots. There are open as well a densely forested areas. For many riders there will also be a few short sections of "hike-a-bike". This information is in no way intended to scare anyone off rather, an attempt to prepare riders for the adventure. In our club ride no one will be left behind and we will stop and discuss techniques as we proceed. Our objective is not to see how fast we can navigate the course. It is specifically to enjoy the outdoors and camaraderie amongst good friends while concurrently improving fitness and MTB skills.
I very much look forward to seeing you all this weekend!
