One of the big mountaintop finishes of the 2020 Tour de France, this recce of the climb starts & finishes in one of the most scenic villages in France called Salers. It starts with a fairly easy open climb called the Col de Neronne 1242m with the mist burning off & its amazing views over the Cantal countryside for almost the entire climb up the side of a long ridge. Following a short descent into dark pine forest, Puy Mary starts with some 3km of fairly steady easy grades continuing through the damp forest. At 3km to go the climb will suddenly ramp up & things become altogether more serious with some very steep grades as you ride out of the treeline & there is no rest bite until the top. This ride does a 180 turn & returns to Salers with the short fairly easy side of the Neronne climb on the way. This ride can be lengthened with Cantal - Salers CycleTour which starts in the same village & could be used as a great warm up.
